THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW

Wes Craven gives us an intriguing and somewhat effective, if flawed, look deep into the culture of voodoo in Haiti with this disturbing horror film. Bill Pullman stars as an anthropoligist who travels to the Caribbean isle to discover black magic, zombies and the like – all drug-induced. A fascinating subject is ultimately reduced to pretty goofy special effects, but is interesting nevertheless.
