Wes Craven’s creepy, unsettling horror film is about a group of neighborhood teenagers who befall a terrifying fate – a burned-up child murderer has entered their dreams and is killing them one by one. The young cast is realistic enough and Robert Englund is pretty scary as the “monster.” Craven’s response to the slasher genre of such films as “Black Christmas” and John Carpenter’s “Halloween” (1978) leaves something to be desired, as it devolves into fairly goofy special effects. Stil, a worthy effort.
